WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
Recent media and scientific interest in non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation (RF) has expanded the awareness of the public and workers of possible hazardous conditions that may exist in the workplace and general environment. As these sources of energy are increasingly used in industry and consumer products (such as 5G), there is a need to determine if government-based human exposure requirements are being met. In this course, you will learn about RF energy and its effect on the human body, how the exposure standards were derived, how to measure the RF levels in a location of concern, and how to develop an appropriate safety protocol based on the results.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Kevin Fisher joined the engineering consulting firm of Smith and Powstenko in 1981, as an associate engineer. In 1995, he became a partner and the firm’s name officially changed to Smith and Fisher. In 2009, the company incorporated and Kevin became president of the firm. Since the 1980’s, Kevin has conducted hundreds of power density (RF) studies and surveys in order to help broadcast FM and television stations, non-broadcast communications facilities owners, manufacturers, and building owners comply with Radio Frequency Radiation (RFR) human exposure standards. Kevin is currently under contract as the RF consultant for the Empire State Building in New York City and has performed dozens of routine and non-routine power density studies there.
In addition, he conducts regular RF safety training for employees, tenants and contractors associated with the ESB. He has also conducted lab tests, field surveys, RF safety training and Narda equipment use/training for Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, NASA, SpaceX, The Naval Research Lab, FEMA, Phillips 66, SEPTA, Southern California Gas, Duquesne Light (Pittsburgh), Commonwealth Edison (Chicago) and the Washington State Highway Patrol, to name but a few. Kevin is an active member of the International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety (ICES) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has actively participated in various advisory committee projects for the FCC, testified as an RF expert witness in hearings and trials, and his qualifications as an expert in his field are a matter of record before the Federal Communications Commission.
